Ferebory Dore has the unique ability to coordinate human efforts towards achieving success regardless of the circumstances. Ferebory is native of Guinea Conakry, located in West Africa. He grew up in a lovely family and was the fourth out of five children. At the age of 12 he and his siblings moved to the United States in search of opportunities and a better life. Unbeknownst to Ferebory, possessing the ability of speaking three African languages; Mandigo, Sousou and French would benefit his future endeavors and also created a challenge when living in the US.
The excitement of moving to New York was short lived when Ferebory encountered the barrier of language… the English language. Not being able to speak English made Ferebory a target of bullying and isolated him from his peers. However, at the age of 12, he was resilient and was able to learn to read, speak and write English over a short period of time. At age 16 Ferebory began teaching English to three children from Mali. This sparked his interest and love of language.
Ferebory obtained an Associates in Business administration from Delaware County Community College. He also pursued his Bachelors in international business management and Masters in French Literature at West Chester University.
Ferebory’s vision of seeing communities working together to help uplift one another began to take shape in 2016 when he joined the Harlem Children Zone (HCZ) working as a Peacemaker for AmeriCorps program. Later he moved on to be a program coordinator, then was prompted as a school’s Assistant Director.
Through personal and employment experience, Ferebory recognized that “Bridges of Language” is a necessity in our community, as we promote strength based programs while embracing each other’s cultures and exposing our youth to multiple languages.
